10th Anniversary Receives Challenge Match!

___Fourteen donors have come forward with a very exiting challenge match. Pledging to give up to $5,000 each as a match for any increase over a 2012 gift, the group has created a challenge pool of $70,000 to benefit the Campaign and thus legal aid in Maine.

These attorneys, listed at right, have each been extraordinarily successful, both as lawyers and public servants. During their illustrious careers, they have served as role models for so many younger lawyers. Once again, they have stepped up to make a generous gift to help those less fortunate, but also to set an example to inspire all Maine lawyers to do the same.

They have set a high bar for us to match, and I hope the Campaign can count on your help.  Please give generously.. Thank you again for your support and for considering an increase that will help us meet this challenge and the opportunity to leap forward in this 10th Anniversary year.

_Making It Count
By 2013 Chair William Harwood

_The  stage has been set this year, and in prior years, for a tenth anniversary that sets a new norm.

Fifty-eight percent of you reading this have already supported the Campaign in one or more years.  Nearly half of you who gave in 2012 increased or doubled your support.  If we can dedicate ourselves to merging those two pieces of data into one year, 2013 could be a banner one for the philanthropic commitment of the legal community to civil legal aid, especially with the matching challenge.

In any one year, under a third of us give.  Many of us have not increased our gifts in years.  All of us know fellow members who would give or give more if asked by us personally.

In this 10th year, I urge you to reconnect to the need and recommit to the founding premise of this Campaign— to advance justice regardless of the ability to pay.  Resolving fundamental legal issues one family at a time can mean progress for generations to come.  That is the power of the law and the lasting legacy of the Maine legal community.  Take a pledge to make sure you give and consider an increase, but advocate and work for the Campaign in your own way.
