Jaye Martin Receives DeTroy Award
Jaye Martin, Esq. has been honored as the recipient of the 2026 Peter J. DeTroy III Award. The DeTroy Award recognizes individuals who have worked to advance justice in Maine and/or to remove barriers for vulnerable populations.
Over the course of her 20-year career, Jaye was a champion for older Mainers. During her tenure as Executive Director of Legal Services for Maine Elders (LSE), she transformed the organization, trained staff and volunteers, and inspired countless others to become advocates for a population that is sometimes overlooked. Jaye’s leadership ensured that LSE would be a powerful voice for Maine elders through both direct representation and public policy advocacy.
Jaye’s contributions to advancing justice for Maine’s elders extend across the state. Her efforts have expanded public awareness of elder abuse and increased its recognition by law enforcement and the courts. She played key roles in convening or leading multiple statewide partnerships, councils, and committees focused on ensuring access to justice for older Mainers. Known for her collaborative approach, Jaye worked closely with all of Maine’s legal aid providers, focusing on the shared mission of justice for all.
Presenting the 2026 DeTroy Award at the MSBA Summer Bar Conference, Deirdre Smith, Esq., Director of Litigation for Pine Tree Legal Assistance, remarked “Maine’s legal community—and the broader community—needs more people like Jaye: someone who not only works hard to get things done but ensures that we are working together, across differences and difficulties to advance justice for all.”
